The short answer
WallEdge Installation installs specialty wallcoverings in Gulf Stream, about three miles from our Boynton Beach base. We handle hand-printed papers, grasscloth and murals with careful prep, clean-hands technique, and humidity and storm planning suited to an oceanfront town.
The town of Gulf Stream is about three miles south of our Boynton Beach base, a quick drive down the coast in Palm Beach County. Homes here often feature finished interiors where the wallcovering is a central design element rather than an afterthought, and the materials chosen tend to be specialty goods: hand-printed papers, natural weaves, scenic murals, silk-look and textured coverings. Those products demand slower, more careful handling than a standard roll. This page explains how we work with them, how we coordinate with designers and homeowners, and how we protect both the paper and the room in a coastal climate.
Handling materials that forgive nothing
Specialty papers behave differently from everyday rolls. Some hand-printed papers arrive untrimmed and must be cut along the selvage edge with a straightedge before hanging. Grasscloth and silk-look papers stain if a drop of paste touches the front. Large scenic murals come as sequenced panels where a misplaced sheet ruins the composition.
Our approach is unhurried. We inspect every roll for flaws and confirm matching batch numbers before any cutting begins, lay out panels on a clean table, paste with care to keep adhesive off the face and change wipe water often. If we spot a defect in the goods, we stop and contact you or your designer before hanging, since a strip on the wall is much harder to return.
Working alongside designers
Many Gulf Stream projects involve an interior designer who has selected the paper, sometimes months in advance. We are comfortable taking direction from a design plan: where the pattern should center, which wall gets the mural's focal point, how a border should meet the crown molding. Before installation, we walk the rooms with whoever is leading the design and confirm placement, seam locations and how outlets and switch plates will be handled.
Ordering is the other half of that partnership. Specialty goods often ship from overseas mills in limited print runs, and a second batch rarely matches the first exactly. We measure every wall, account for the pattern repeat and for waste at doors, windows and ceiling lines, and recommend an extra roll as a backup for a damaged strip or a later repair. When a mural is custom-sized, we supply exact wall dimensions to the maker so the panels are printed to fit rather than trimmed heavily on site, which can cut off part of the image.
Protecting the home during the job
Finished interiors need care while work is underway. A typical setup includes:
- Drop cloths and floor protection from the entry to the work room.
- Furniture moved or wrapped, art and fixtures removed and stored safely.
- A dedicated cutting and pasting station away from finished surfaces.
- Daily cleanup so the home stays livable if the project spans several days.
- All old paper, trimmings and packaging carried out with us.
Coastal conditions and timing
Being right on the coast brings salt air and a steady supply of humidity. Natural fibers and metallic inks are the most vulnerable, so on walls near ocean-facing doors we may suggest sealing grasscloth or choosing a coated alternative. Under every covering goes a mildew-resistant wallcovering primer over a properly repaired surface, whether that surface is plaster, drywall or concrete block.
The calendar matters too. Our wettest, hottest stretch runs from May through October, with afternoon storms most days. Keep air conditioning running steadily before, during and after the install so specialty papers do not swell or shrink unevenly. Hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30. If shutters must go up or a storm watch is issued, we reschedule. For irreplaceable or long-lead materials, the drier months from November to April are an excellent time to schedule.
Everything else we offer here
Not every Gulf Stream project is a specialty install. We also handle wallpaper removal, wall preparation and repair, accent walls, ceiling papers, peel and stick, vinyl wallcovering for baths and service areas, and commercial wallcovering. The same crew serves Briny Breezes, Delray Beach, Ocean Ridge, Hypoluxo and Manalapan, all within a few minutes of Gulf Stream.
