The short answer
Gulf Stream homes need wallpaper chosen for humidity and sun, hung on dry, primed walls with the right adhesive. WallEdge Installation plans, preps and installs paper so it stays tight through the wet season.
Homes in Gulf Stream sit on a narrow strip of land between the Atlantic and the Intracoastal, so nearly every house lives with sea air, bright light and the long humid season South Florida is known for. Wallpaper looks wonderful in these interiors, from soft coastal prints to formal damasks and textured weaves, provided it is chosen and installed for the conditions. WallEdge Installation is based in Boynton Beach, roughly 3 miles north, and we hang wallpaper in Gulf Stream living spaces, bedrooms, baths and entertaining rooms with a coastal-first approach.
Matching the paper to a coastal room
We help you narrow choices by room. Formal dining and living rooms with steady air conditioning can take almost anything, including silk, flocked or hand-screened designs. Bedrooms facing the water benefit from fade-resistant prints. Baths, wet bars and laundry rooms call for vinyl or coated papers with a mildew-resistant paste.
Rooms opening onto a pool deck see more humidity and grit than the rest of the house, so we lean toward scrubbable surfaces there. Rooms with fine millwork and detailed trim are better suited to papers that cut cleanly and do not stretch.
The weather we plan around
South Florida never has a fully dry season. From May through October the air is hot and heavy with frequent afternoon storms, and hurricane season stretches from June 1 to November 30. Indoors, that means walls, especially exterior ones, can hold moisture after a storm, and a house left closed with the AC off can turn damp in days.
We schedule installs when the home is running its normal climate control and check every wall before we start. If a reading is high, we find out why. A small leak at a window or slider needs to be fixed first, or the new wallpaper will be the first thing to show the problem.
- Moisture readings on exterior and window walls
- Mildew-resistant adhesive in damp-prone rooms
- AC running before, during and after installation
- Dehumidifier use advised for seasonal homes
Detail work in finished interiors
Many homes along this stretch of the coast have crown molding, coffered ceilings, built-in cabinetry, wainscoting and custom window casings. Wallpaper has to meet all of it with straight, clean edges. We trim with fresh blades, wipe paste off woodwork immediately, and take our time around complex profiles.
We protect finished floors with breathable drop cloths, move and cover furniture, and keep the work area tidy throughout. If a decorator or designer is involved, we coordinate with them on pattern placement and the starting point so the design looks centered where it matters most.
Our process from first visit to final walkthrough
At the first visit we measure each wall, photograph trim details and note outlets, vents and fixtures. We calculate roll counts based on the pattern repeat and the ceiling height and send them to you or your designer for ordering. When the paper arrives, we check every roll for matching run numbers and defects before cutting.
On installation day we remove covers, repair and prime walls, mark plumb lines and hang the paper with careful pattern matching. Seams are rolled lightly and cleaned. Before we leave, we reinstall covers, clean up and walk through each room with you.
Nearby areas
We also hang wallpaper for homeowners in Briny Breezes, Delray Beach, Ocean Ridge, Hypoluxo and Manalapan, all within a short drive of our Boynton Beach base.
Because the town is so close to our shop, short follow-up visits are easy to arrange. If you add a room later, order an extra roll for a future repair, or want a second space done to match, we can usually fit that work in without a long wait. Keep one spare roll from the same run stored flat in a dry closet; if a section is ever damaged by a leak or a bumped piece of furniture, a patch from that run will blend far better than paper ordered years later.
When the summer months arrive and the house is closed up, set the thermostat to a moderate temperature rather than turning it off. A few weeks of stagnant, humid air is the most common reason we see seams open in coastal homes, and a steady indoor climate prevents it.
