The short answer
We install printed and custom wallpaper murals in Ocean Ridge homes, starting with a precise measurement and ending with panels aligned so the image flows without visible breaks. We also advise on design scale and the best wall for the picture.
Living two miles east of Boynton Beach, on the barrier island, Ocean Ridge residents are already surrounded by big scenery. A wallpaper mural lets you bring a different kind of scene indoors: a botanical study for a sunroom, a vintage nautical chart for a den, a dreamy cloudscape for a nursery, or a hand-painted panorama for a formal dining room. The difference between a mural that looks like art and one that looks like a poster is almost always the installation. WallEdge Installation hangs murals across Ocean Ridge with the alignment and patience the format demands.
What makes murals different from regular wallpaper
Standard wallpaper repeats, so any two drops can be matched. A mural is one large image cut into a specific sequence of panels, and each panel can only go in one place. If the first panel is a quarter inch off plumb, that error compounds across the wall and shows up as a tilted horizon or a stair-stepped edge at the ceiling.
Murals also come in a wider range of materials, from prepasted paper to nonwoven paste-the-wall stock to vinyl, silk and hand-painted panels on specialty substrates. Each behaves differently when wet, and some need a liner paper underneath. Identifying the material early tells us which adhesive and technique to use.
Picking a design that suits the room
Scale is the most common surprise. Images designed for a large wall can look cramped when cropped for a small one, and fine details disappear if the room is viewed mainly from a distance. A few guidelines we share with Ocean Ridge clients:
- In rooms with a direct ocean or lagoon view, softer, low-contrast murals sit alongside the real view instead of competing with it.
- Bold, saturated scenes work well in interior rooms with no windows, like a powder room or media room, where the mural becomes the view.
- Keep the focal point of the image at roughly seated or standing eye level, depending on how the room is used.
- Leave some breathing room at the edges so trimming to the actual wall does not cut off key elements.
- Consider the furniture plan, so a sofa or bed does not block the most interesting part of the image.
From measurement to the final trim
We start by measuring the wall in several spots, since floors and ceilings in older coastal homes are often slightly out of level. Those numbers go to you or your supplier so the mural is printed with adequate bleed. When the panels arrive, we unpack and lay them out in order to verify numbering, color consistency and print quality.
On install day the wall is patched, sanded and primed. We snap a plumb line and, when the image has a strong horizontal element like a horizon, a level line too. Panels go up in sequence, matched at seams by eye and by reference marks. Once the full image is in place, we trim the excess at the ceiling, baseboard and corners and clean the surface.
Keeping a mural flat in coastal humidity
Murals on a single large wall can show movement if the paper expands or contracts. Hanging them on a dry, primed wall and in a room with steady air conditioning reduces that risk. Ocean-facing exterior walls get a moisture reading first, especially after summer storms. If a hurricane watch is posted during your project window, between June and November, we pause and reschedule so the room is not left half-finished.
Caring for your mural once it is up
Give the adhesive a few days to cure before leaning furniture against the wall or hanging anything nearby. Most nonwoven and vinyl murals can be wiped gently with a damp, soft cloth if they get a smudge; uncoated papers and silk should only be dusted. Test any cleaning on an inconspicuous corner first.
Direct sun through large windows is the main long-term threat, since it can slowly fade printed inks. Sheer curtains, shades or UV-filtering window film help preserve color, particularly on walls that face the water and catch strong light much of the day. Keep a leftover piece of the mural if one remains after trimming, as it can be useful for small patch repairs later.
