Ocean Ridge Accent Walls, Papered with Care

The short answer

An accent wall gives an Ocean Ridge room one focal surface of pattern or texture while the rest stays light. We help choose the wall and the paper, prep the surface for humid conditions, and usually finish the install in a single day.

Ocean Ridge is barely two miles east of our Boynton Beach workshop, just over the Intracoastal, so it is one of the easiest places for us to reach. Plenty of houses here lean on white walls, pale floors and coastal light, and that clean palette is exactly what makes a single papered wall stand out. A textured neutral behind the bed, a bold tropical leaf in the breakfast nook, or a soft blue stripe in a guest room can give a room personality without turning the whole house over to pattern. WallEdge Installation designs around that idea and installs accent walls that look crisp years after the crew has gone.

Three questions to answer before you pick a paper

Where does your eye land when you enter the room? That surface, not necessarily the largest one, is usually the right candidate. In a bedroom it is often the headboard wall; in an open kitchen and family space it may be the wall behind a banquette or a bar cabinet.

How much light hits it, and when? East-facing walls near the ocean catch bright morning sun, which flattens subtle textures and can fade some inks over time. A wall that stays in shade benefits from papers with a bit of sheen or metallic detail that catch lamp light in the evening.

What else lives on that wall? Artwork, shelves and mounted televisions cover parts of the pattern. A large-scale motif can get chopped up by a big screen, so a smaller repeat or a texture may serve that wall better.

Common mistakes we help Ocean Ridge clients avoid

Accent walls are simple in concept, which is why small planning errors show up so clearly. These are the issues we flag most often during a consultation:

  • Choosing a wall broken up by two windows and a door, leaving only narrow strips of paper that read as clutter.
  • Ordering exactly enough rolls with no allowance for the pattern repeat, then running short on the last drop.
  • Putting natural fiber paper beside a slider that stays open in the afternoon breeze.
  • Hanging over an unprimed, freshly patched wall, which leads to uneven adhesion and patchy color.
  • Ignoring the adjacent walls, so a warm-toned paper clashes with a cool white paint right next to it.

Surface prep on a coastal block house

Older Ocean Ridge homes are frequently concrete block with a plaster or drywall finish, while newer ones may be frame construction with drywall throughout. Either way, a feature wall needs a smooth, sealed surface. We patch nail holes and hairline cracks, sand flush, and roll on a wallcovering primer.

Outer walls get a moisture check, because block can stay damp after the frequent afternoon thunderstorms of summer. Hanging on a wet wall risks blistering and seams that lift. If readings are high, we wait for a drier spell, which in this part of the coast often means looking toward the cooler, drier months from November into spring for the most predictable conditions.

Installation and finishing details

On the day itself, we protect floors and nearby furniture, mark a plumb line, and plan seam positions so they avoid the center of the wall and land away from the brightest light, where seams are most visible. Each drop is matched and smoothed, then trimmed tight at the ceiling, baseboard and corners.

When the paper turns onto an adjacent wall or wraps a corner, we cut it so the pattern looks deliberate rather than squeezed. Outlet covers are reinstalled on top of the paper, and we wipe the surface and trim clean before a final walk-through with you.

FAQ

Common questions

Don’t see your question? Call (561) 834-7669 and we’ll talk it through.

Which room is best for an accent wall?

Bedrooms, dining nooks, home offices and entry walls are popular choices. The best wall is usually the first one you see on entering, with few interruptions.

Does an accent wall have to be the darkest wall in the room?

No. Light textured papers, subtle stripes and soft botanicals work well, especially in bright coastal rooms where a dark wall might feel heavy.

Can wallpaper handle Ocean Ridge humidity?

Yes, with the right material and prep. Nonwoven and vinyl papers handle moisture swings well, and primer plus steady air conditioning helps keep seams tight.

How long does an accent wall installation take?

Most single walls are completed in one day, though extensive repairs or complex patterns can add time.

Can I put an accent wall on the ceiling instead?

Ceilings make striking accents too. They require more setup and careful alignment, and we plan them as a separate step.

Planning a wallpaper project?

Tell us about the room, the paper you have in mind and the condition of the walls. We will set up a visit to measure and walk you through the scope.
