Grasscloth Wallcovering Installation in Delray Beach

The short answer

We install natural grasscloth and grasscloth-look wallcoverings throughout Delray Beach. Careful sequencing of panels, a tinted primer and stain-free adhesive handling are what keep the finished walls even and clean.

Grasscloth has a long history in Florida interiors, and in Delray Beach it shows up in everything from beachside condos to inland homes decorated in a relaxed, natural style. Woven from grasses, reeds, jute or sisal, it adds texture that paint cannot imitate. It also asks more of the installer than standard wallpaper. WallEdge Installation is based in Boynton Beach, about five miles north, and we install grasscloth across Delray Beach with a method built around the material's quirks and our humid weather.

Understanding the material before it goes up

Grasscloth is made by hand-weaving natural fibers and laminating them to a paper or non-woven backing. Because of that, each roll carries its own slight variation in color and thickness, and there is no pattern to line up at the seams. Seams will be visible to some degree. Rather than trying to hide them completely, a good installation makes the transitions consistent from one panel to the next.

Different fibers behave differently. Fine arrowroot and sisal look refined and smooth, while chunky seagrass and jute are rustic and bulky. Thicker weaves are more forgiving of small wall flaws but are harder to cut cleanly around outlets and window trim. We look at your chosen product in person and plan accordingly.

  • Sisal: tight, even texture with a tailored look
  • Arrowroot: flat strands with subtle sheen
  • Seagrass: thick, irregular weave with strong character
  • Jute and hemp: rough, earthy texture for casual rooms
  • Vinyl grasscloth: embossed lookalike that tolerates moisture

Where grasscloth works in a Delray home

Natural fiber does best in rooms that are dry, air-conditioned and not exposed to splashes. Living rooms, studies, bedrooms and dining rooms are ideal. Hallways can work if they are not high-traffic paths for wet swimsuits or sandy beach bags. Bathrooms, kitchens near the sink, laundry rooms and spaces with a pool door that opens constantly are better suited to a vinyl alternative.

Sun is a second consideration. Delray's bright light can fade natural fibers over time, particularly on walls facing large windows. If your favorite wall gets direct afternoon sun, we may suggest UV film on the glass, sheer window treatments or a more fade-resistant colorway.

Prep that prevents the classic grasscloth problems

Most grasscloth complaints come from three sources: stains from adhesive, gaps or bright lines at the seams, and bubbling caused by moisture. Our prep targets all three. We smooth the walls, then seal them with a primer designed for wallcoverings, tinted toward the color of the fiber so that any tiny seam gap disappears instead of glowing white.

Moisture checks matter, especially in older homes with plaster over concrete block on exterior walls and in ground-floor condos. If a wall reads damp after a week of summer storms, we let it dry with the AC running before installing.

How we hang it

Panels are numbered as they come off the roll and hung in that order, with the manufacturer's guidance on reversing alternate strips followed where it applies. We apply a clear adhesive in an even layer and avoid getting any on the face. A soft brush presses the panel into place, and seams are gently pressed rather than rolled hard. Cutting is done with fresh blades and a straightedge so fibers do not fray at the ceiling, baseboard and trim.

If a stray dab of paste does land on the surface, we blot it immediately with a clean, dry sponge. Water can spread a mark, so we keep it away from the fiber.

Care after installation

Keep the room air-conditioned at a steady setting, especially for the first week while the adhesive cures. Dust with a soft brush or the brush attachment on a vacuum. Avoid sprays, wet cloths and cleaners. Store any leftover roll indoors in a dry closet; because dye lots differ, it is the only true match for future repairs.

FAQ

Common questions

Don’t see your question? Call (561) 834-7669 and we’ll talk it through.

Is grasscloth practical in a Delray Beach condo near the ocean?

In a dry, air-conditioned room, yes. For bathrooms or rooms that open to a balcony constantly, a vinyl grasscloth look is the safer choice.

Why are grasscloth seams visible?

Natural fibers vary in color and density, so the edges of each panel show slightly. Careful sequencing and a tinted primer keep the effect even.

Can grasscloth be cleaned?

Only lightly. Dust it with a soft brush or vacuum attachment and avoid water or sprays, which can stain the fiber.

Will grasscloth fade in Florida sun?

Natural fibers can lighten with strong direct sun. UV film or window treatments slow fading on sun-facing walls.

How much extra grasscloth should I order?

We recommend at least one extra roll from the same lot for trim loss and future repairs. We calculate the exact count after measuring.

Planning a wallpaper project?

Tell us about the room, the paper you have in mind and the condition of the walls. We will set up a visit to measure and walk you through the scope.
