The short answer
WallEdge Installation hangs wallpaper throughout Atlantis homes, from powder rooms to full living areas. We assess the walls, plan the pattern layout and choose primers and adhesives that suit the local humidity.
Atlantis is a small, mostly residential city in Palm Beach County, and many of its homes have generous rooms with long, uninterrupted walls, the kind that show off a good wallpaper. From our base in Boynton Beach, about five miles south, WallEdge Installation papers full rooms, stairwells, powder rooms and kitchens here. Below we explain the questions we ask before quoting, how we prepare and hang, and what helps a new wallcovering last through Florida summers.
Questions we ask at the first visit
A good installation starts with honest information about the room and the paper. During the walkthrough we look at the walls, measure, and ask a short list of questions so there are no surprises on installation day.
- What paper have you chosen, and what is its pattern repeat and match type?
- Is there existing wallpaper, and how many layers might be underneath?
- Does the room get steam, direct sun or long periods without air conditioning?
- Are there built-ins, crown molding or chair rail we need to work around?
- Which wall do you look at most, so the pattern starts in the right place?
Planning the pattern around the room
Every room has a spot where the last strip meets the first, and the pattern almost never lines up there. We place that mismatch where nobody notices, usually in a corner behind a door or above a closet opening. We also decide where to center a large motif, often on a fireplace, a bed wall or a picture window, so the room feels balanced.
Rooms with vaulted ceilings, angled walls or stair runs need extra planning. On a sloped ceiling line the pattern can drift, and we account for that in the layout rather than discovering it halfway through.
Preparing Atlantis walls
Interior walls here are typically drywall, with plaster over concrete block on exterior walls. Both need a sound, smooth, sealed surface. We fill gouges, sand down raised texture, remove loose paint and apply a primer formulated for wallcoverings. That primer helps the paste grab and, just as important, lets you remove the paper in the future without tearing up the drywall face.
Bathrooms and kitchens get extra attention. We check for soft spots near tubs and sinks, and we caulk where paper meets backsplash or tub surround so splashes do not wick behind the edge.
Choosing paper for a South Florida home
From May through October the air outside is hot and wet, and indoors the AC pulls moisture out. Wallcoverings in this climate need to tolerate that swing. Non-woven and solid vinyl papers are the steadiest choices for most rooms, and vinyl is the safer pick for bathrooms. Traditional pulp papers and natural textiles are beautiful but more sensitive, so we suggest them for bedrooms and formal rooms that stay cool.
Hurricane season, which runs from June through November, can also bring power outages. A house closed up without AC for several days can let humidity build. Running a dehumidifier or opening the house for air once power returns helps protect any wallcovering.
What happens while we hang
On installation day we protect floors with drop cloths, take down outlet and switch plates, and set up a pasting table in a spot you approve, often a garage or a tiled area near the room. The first strip goes up against a plumb line, never against a corner, because few corners in any house are truly straight. From there we work around the room, matching each strip to the last, smoothing out air and wiping paste off the face before it dries.
Trim cuts at the ceiling, baseboard and door casings are made with fresh blades, changed often, so the edges stay crisp instead of tearing. Around windows we wrap the paper neatly into the returns where there is room for it. At the end of each day we clean up scraps, reinstall covers on finished walls and tell you which areas should be left alone overnight while the adhesive sets.
If anything about the paper looks wrong when we open the rolls, such as a printing flaw or mismatched batch numbers, we stop and show you before cutting. Returning an uncut roll is far simpler than replacing a wall.
