Common questions, answered up front
Will I see the seams? Yes, a little. Every panel of natural fiber carries slight color and texture differences, and seams between them are part of the look. Careful sequencing makes the variation gentle and even rather than abrupt.
Can it go anywhere? No. Grasscloth does well in living rooms, bedrooms, dining areas, dens and offices with steady air conditioning. It does poorly in bathrooms with showers, kitchens near the stove or sink, and rooms with doors left open to a balcony for long periods.
Is it hard to clean? It cannot be scrubbed. Light dusting is the main care, and spills need to be blotted right away.
Grasscloth in condos and waterfront units
Many Hypoluxo residences face the Intracoastal or sit close to it, which means generous windows and plenty of sunlight. Dyed fibers fade under strong light, so we often suggest natural or lightly tinted weaves for walls near glass and deeper colors for interior walls that stay shaded. Adding UV-filtering film to big windows also helps.
Condo walls may be drywall or concrete with a skim coat. Either works once it is smooth, dry and primed. If the unit is seasonal, plan to keep the air conditioning running at a moderate setting through the wet season from May to October. Natural fibers left in hot, damp, still air for weeks can warp, stain or pick up odors.

- Clear, mildew-resistant adhesive applied to the back only
- Soft brushes for smoothing so the weave is not crushed
- Sharp blades changed often for clean, fray-free cuts
- Immediate blotting of any adhesive that reaches the face
Panel order and layout
We number the panels as they come off each roll and keep them in that order on the wall. Some manufacturers recommend reversing every other panel to balance edge-to-edge shading; we follow whatever your product calls for. The layout puts the most noticeable seams where they draw the least attention, such as near corners, doors or tall furniture.
Grasscloth wraps outside corners poorly and can crack the fibers, so we usually cut at the corner and start a fresh panel. Inside corners are trimmed and overlapped slightly for a clean line.
Ordering advice
Buy all the rolls at once, from one run, and add a spare. A later batch can look like a different shade. Keep the spare flat in a dry closet, because an invisible repair is only possible with fiber from the original run.
