The short answer
Mural panels must be measured, ordered to size and aligned panel by panel so the image reads as one picture. WallEdge Installation handles that planning and installation for homes in Greenacres, FL.
A wallpaper mural is one large image printed across a set of numbered panels: a tropical canopy for a sunroom, a map for a study, a cloud ceiling for a nursery, a misty forest behind a reading chair. Unlike repeating wallpaper, the picture only works if every panel lands exactly where the designer intended. WallEdge Installation travels about 8 miles northwest from Boynton Beach to install murals in Greenacres houses, townhomes and condos throughout ZIP code 33463, and we approach each one like assembling a puzzle that has to line up on a wall that is probably not perfectly square.
Measure first, order second
Most mural companies print to your wall dimensions, so the order is only as good as the measurements behind it. We measure the width at the top, middle and bottom and the height at both ends and the center. Rooms are rarely true rectangles, and a half-inch difference across a wall can push an important part of the image into a corner or under the crown molding.
We also recommend ordering a few inches of bleed on every side. That extra margin gets trimmed away at the ceiling, floor and corners, and it gives room to keep the horizon level even when the ceiling line slopes. If you have not ordered yet, we can send you the numbers to enter on the mural maker's site.
- Width and height at several points, not just one
- Locations of outlets, switches, vents and thermostats
- Where furniture will cover the lower part of the image
- Which part of the picture you most want visible at eye level
Deciding where the image sits
A mural's focal point should line up with how the room is used. In a bedroom, the interesting part of the scene usually belongs above the headboard, not hidden behind it. In a living room, it should clear the back of the sofa. A child's room can place animals or characters low enough for the child to see them from the floor.
We tape a rough outline of the panels on the wall before any paste comes out. That five-minute step shows whether a window or door will cut through a face, a sunset or a key detail. If it does, we shift the layout and trim the bleed differently.
Surface work for Greenacres walls
Murals are often printed on smooth nonwoven or thin vinyl material that telegraphs everything behind it. Orange-peel and knockdown textures, common on drywall in South Florida houses, will show through as a dimpled surface. For a crisp image, we skim-coat textured walls smooth, sand, and prime. On an exterior concrete block wall we take a moisture reading first, because the paste needs a dry wall to grip.
Humidity matters during the cure. Hurricane season runs June through November, and summer storms can push the house damp if the AC is off. We ask homeowners to keep the air conditioning on and the doors mostly closed for a day or two after installation.
Putting the panels up
We lay the panels out on the floor in order and check every number against the layout sheet. The first panel goes up against a plumb line, not against the corner, since corners in many homes lean. Each following panel is aligned at the image, not just at the edge, so lines in the picture continue unbroken across seams. Some murals are designed to overlap slightly and be double-cut; others butt together. We follow whichever method the printer specifies.
Once all panels are hung, we trim the bleed at the top and bottom, cut neatly around outlets and switches, and clean any paste from the face with a damp sponge. Covers go back on and the room is ready to use. Most single-wall murals take one visit.
Popular mural ideas for local homes
Greenacres sits inland, but plenty of residents still want a coastal or tropical mood indoors. Palm fronds, banana leaves, botanical prints and soft watercolor seascapes are common requests. Others go in the opposite direction with mountain ranges, city skylines, vintage maps or abstract color washes that make a small room feel deeper.
We install murals in Greenacres as well as Atlantis, Lake Clarke Shores, Lake Worth Beach, Lantana and South Palm Beach.
