The short answer
WallEdge Installation serves Cloud Lake, about ten miles north of Boynton Beach, with wallpaper removal, wall repair and new installation. We strip old layers, fix the drywall or plaster beneath, prime properly and hang new paper suited to South Florida humidity.
Cloud Lake is a small town roughly ten miles north of our Boynton Beach base, tucked in among Lake Clarke Shores, Lake Worth Beach and Greenacres in Palm Beach County. Many of the calls we get from this area begin the same way: someone has bought or inherited a house, and there is old wallpaper on the walls that has seen better days. Sometimes there are two or three layers. Our work in Cloud Lake often starts with taking things down before anything new goes up, so this page focuses on that sequence: stripping, repairing, priming and then hanging a new covering that will last through many humid summers.
Old paper in older houses
Wallpaper from past decades was often hung directly on unprimed drywall or painted block. Over years of damp summers, the paste bonds tightly to the wall surface, and the paper itself may have faded, curled at the seams or picked up water stains near windows and the ceiling. Painting over it rarely works for long. The paint wets the old paper, bubbles appear, and the seams show through.
Removal is the honest fix. We score and soak the paper, lift it off in sections, then wash the walls until the adhesive residue is gone. Leftover paste is a hidden problem because it can reactivate under new paper or paint and cause blisters months later.
What we often find underneath
Taking paper down reveals the real condition of a wall. In Cloud Lake houses we regularly run into:
- Torn drywall face paper where the old covering was glued straight to the board.
- Hairline cracks along concrete block joints and around window frames.
- Patches from previous repairs that were never feathered smooth.
- Discoloration near AC vents or exterior walls where condensation formed.
- Several layers of paint and paper on the same wall, which can hide uneven spots.
Repair and priming before the new look
Torn drywall gets sealed with a shellac or oil-based primer so it does not swell when it meets water-based compound. Cracks are taped or filled, then skimmed and sanded flat. Discolored areas are cleaned and treated, and if we find soft or wet drywall we point it out so the moisture source can be handled before we go further.
Finally the wall gets a wallcovering primer. It gives the new paper an even surface to grip, lets us slide strips into position for a tight pattern match, and makes the next removal far easier, whether that is in five years or twenty.
Choosing what goes up next
Once the walls are sound, the options open up. Traditional pasted papers and non-woven papers suit bedrooms and living areas. Grasscloth adds a natural, layered texture to a den or study. Vinyl wallcovering is a practical choice for kitchens, bathrooms and laundry rooms that see steam and splashes. If you would rather test a pattern before committing, peel and stick on a primed and painted wall is an easy starting point. Murals and ceiling papers are available too, and we can help you decide which wall will show a large design to its best advantage.
Commercial clients in the area, such as small offices and storefronts, often want type II vinyl for its durability. That work follows the same prep standard as a home.
Humidity, cooling and storm season
Freshly repaired walls and new paste both need stable conditions to dry. During the hot, wet months from May through October, keep the air conditioning running continuously while we work and for a few days afterward. From June 1 through November 30, hurricane season can disrupt plans; if a storm threatens, we will move your date rather than risk a power outage mid-cure. The drier stretch from November to April is ideal for whole-house removal projects.
Neighboring towns we cover
Besides Cloud Lake, we work in Lake Clarke Shores, Lake Worth Beach, Greenacres, Atlantis and South Palm Beach, using the same remove-repair-prime approach in each.
